PoseOff Announcement and Roadmap


It doesn't look like much, but here it is - PoseOff (just a working title). It's been about a one-month journey at this point, but, I've got a turn-based RPG built from the ground up in Phaser 3.

The idea behind this was quite simple - what if there was an RPG where you were trying to out-horny your opponent? Get them to want sex more than you want sex. Each attack would be made not with the intention of violence and beating your opponent into submission, but with the intention of seduction. 

This might seem like an aesthetic decision above all else, but part of what was interesting to me was mechanical. What if every attack had a cost to you in terms of compromising some amount of your sexual resolve? You could do mildly seductive moves with a low cost to your own resolve, or really seductive moves with a higher cost to your own resolve. Essentially it would merge your AP or MP right into your HP, creating novel strategic opportunities, especially when paired with resolve based modifiers (the hornier you are, the more effective some of your attacks would be).

So, virtually none of this is available right now. What I've released was simply a proof of concept, a way for me to explore the feasibility of building a turn-based RPG in a framework I wasn't familiar with.  And, consider the concept proved. With that out of the way, I'm ready to start building more pieces onto this.

Roadmap Overview

  • ENEMY AI - Right now enemies just attack the character with the highest HP. I want to introduce a means for enemies to make sophisticated decisions about how to act. This would enable better demi-bosses and bosses
  • ABILITIES - Abilities are like attacks, except they don't inflict direct damage. These would be things that can heal teammates, apply status effects or otherwise change gameplay dynamics.
  • ITEMS - Self explanatory. Inventory and single-use items
  • STORY - I've got a bit of an idea for a setting and plot. I'd like to implement some visual-novel/dating-sim style conversation systems, as well as a global game state to allow for a plot
  • MAP - A navigable world with rich locales and interesting obstacles
  • ACTION ILLUSTRATIONS - Each attack and ability should show of differently, relevant to the pose being selected. For instance,  'dance' should show the character in a sexy pose like they're dancing, 'flash' should show the character flashing their bits.
  • AFTER-BATTLE GAME - For any of you that played my game Sexy Afternoon, you'll be familiar with the intimate scenes from that game. I'd love if demi-boss and boss battles resulted in a game like that. Still deciding whether to gamify it (have it be a further part of the challenge) or to leave it like in Sexy Afternoon and have it be something that people can play at their own leisure. Kind of leaning toward the latter.

So, as such, right now the plan for v0.2.0 is as follows:

  • ENEMY AI - Create the enemy AI system
  • ABILITIES - Add abilities. Probably something to do with healing or modifying one of your stats
  • BOSS BATTLE - With the addition of Enemy AI and Abilities, I'd hope to have the battle system having enough depth to design a first boss. v0.2.0 would hopefully feature a few waves of enemies to add to the strategic depth.
  • ACTION ILLUSTRATIONS  - I mean, let's be honest. You're playing this game cause it's sexy. Right now it's not sexy enough. We'll get each attack illustrated so this game is a bit more steamy.
